Digipak Research 2

I chose to research the digipak from Black Eyed Peas as they are one of my all-time favourite groups and knowing of their previous digipak's I believed that they would be a good idea to research. Compared to Eminem's album cover which I previously researched, this cover has no real life faces. In fact the 4 animated characters on the front are the 4 group members of Black Eyed Peas but they have been animated to coincide with the theme of their album. After watching the music video a couple of times, I understand entirely why their animated faces are on the front and not their real faces. The lead single of "The Time (Dirty Bit)" features these animated faces on the walls of building where the singers are seen to take pictures of and animated characters then jump from these pictures. The whole video is based around the digital age with a lot of different graphics and effects being used.

In terms of the front cover of the digipak, the standard edition(white) is very basic with a simple colour palette used of white and blue. The 4 animated characters stand out well and can be told which ones are which singer due to their features such as hair colour, styles, headphones and glasses. The deluxe edition(black) has much more colour and although it is black it actually stands out a lot more due to the use of colours of pink, yellow, blue and green opposed to only blue. The Black Eyed Peas logo is positioned at the top of the cover and the album name is positioned at the bottom of the screen. This is to not obscure the image and both texts are well placed and clear to read.

The back of the digipak is the same on both editions with them being just black and white ones. The song list is clearly shown on the left with another animated picture of the world on the right further suggesting the theme of this album. This digipak is quite basic compared to other ones which I have seen however it is still interesting because it links the cover to the actual theme of the lead song being animations and futuristic happenings.

The disc for both editions is once again the same with there being a black one and a white one. The disc is very basic with there being practically no colour with only the name of the group and the title being shown clearly, with small print being shown at the bottom however the attention is drawn away from this.
