Glamorous Muisc Video Analysis

"Glamorous" was a song released back in 2007. It was not as popular or well-known as other songs that I have researched, however I have decided to research it because I think that it is important to research songs which are not well-known because that is what my song will be when it is created. The artist of the song is called "Fergie" and she was originally the female singer within the group "The Black Eyed Peas". To this day it has still not been confirmed by the group whether she has split form them or not, but she has begun to produce a number of her own songs. The bonus to this is that she has a direct link to a very successful group and therefore she is known as an artist within the music industry form her past within that group.

At the beginning of this music video the scene starts off in black and white. However, in the next scene and for the rest of the video colour is indeed used apart from flashbacks in which I therefore believe this must be. The flashbacks prove very good for the narrative of the music video because it suggests that this is what she used to do but now she has turned glamorous with nice cars and clothes for example. The text on the screen here further suggests that this is a flashback and it is showing when and where this was. The mise-en-scene within this scene shows hoodies and quite lower-class outfits being worn which also suggests that they are quite young at this party. Maybe underage drinking is occurring? In terms of Goodwin's theory here, a genre characteristic is also used here in this scene with the rapper being shown to wear a hoodie and "bling" which further emphasises his rapping part within this video because it is featuring him "Ludacris" as well as Fergie.

After the second flashback and around halfway through the music video, further text fades in to the shot and then follows on by fading out. Many people have speculated that this is the same font and colour which is used for the "Indiana Jones" film series. However, I have been unable to find any evidence pointing towards this and it may just be a silent marketing technique.

Goodwin's theory is also present here with some intertextual references to real life film. The film "Bonnie and Clyde" was a gangster film starring a man and a woman. Both Ludacris and Fergie both play them here within this scene battling off the cops in the desert. This is very clever as synergy is promoting both the song and the film because they are working together.

One other unique feature of the song, more so than the video itself is that it featured inside of a video game which was Grand Theft Auto 5 released in 2013 and then again in 2014 on and updated console. This was the biggest selling video game of all time and therefore once again gained the Glamorous song huge publicity. I can say that I am one of the people who was unaware of the song until I heard it on the game through the in-car radio station proving my statement right that this was a huge publicity help further years on to the song's original release.

The lyrics which are used within this music video are very catchy especially the chorus. The chorus is of course a very important part of any song and usually includes some form of the song title. Within this song, the word "Glamorous" is actually spelt out by Fergie in a tune to the music. Different slow-motion edits are used to emphasise this when it is being spelt out because it is the title of the song.

I believe that this is a good music video especially because of the excellent use of synergy between song and film and I believe that it will help me when it comes to create my own music video by giving me the awareness and knowledge of different ways to create and deliver a song to my audience.
